To be a strong fit for the Import / Export Lead, you will have:
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college.
  • 5+ years of proven import/export compliance experience, including classification of products, and working directly with U.S. and foreign customs agencies, customs brokers and freight forwarders. Quick question for you - click here

  • Prior experience managing people and projects. 
  • Working knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), Explanatory Notes (EN), and Customs Regulations (Chapter 19, Code of Federal Regulations).
  • Solid knowledge of and experience working with Microsoft Office Suite programs (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
  • Experience with simultaneously managing daily tasks and projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Excellent planning, communication, organizational and analytical skills A very strong detail and deadline orientation.
  • An energetic and enthusiastic approach to group or team efforts.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal direction.
Preferred but not required:
  • A valid triple-certification for hazmat shipping: IATA, IMDG and 49CFR.
  • U.S. Customs broker's license and/or completion of customs broker licensing course.

Typically you will work from 8 to 5, Monday through Friday. Occasionally, you may be expected to put in some extra hours to meet deadlines. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Trade Compliance and International Logistics, you will join a small and highly effective team. As a wholesaler, we import and export motorcycles, ATV, watercraft and other Kawasaki products, along with accessories and spare parts.

As Import / Export Lead (internally titled Trade Compliance and International Logistics Lead), you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Import & Export operations of the Corporation and for ensuring rapid Customs clearance and compliance with U.S. Customs Rules and Regulations. You will represent the Kawasaki before the U.S. Customs and Border Protection on all matters. Quick question for you - click here

Additionally, you will be responsible for:
  • Account management of export shipments encompassing all aspects of the shipment cycle: create shipping instructions, release orders, prepare related export documentation, track, and audit and submit payments to business partners. Quick question for you - click here
  • Coordinating with internal and external customers, transportation providers, government agencies and agents to ensure accurate and timely delivery of international cargo. 
  • Managing day-to-day compliance issues that delay the clearance of goods, anticipates problems and resolves the situations.
  • Preparing and signing HazMat certificates for air and ocean, non-hazardous letters for other shipments; ensuring package marking and labeling meet DOT, IATA and IMO's dangerous goods transportation requirements.
  • Providing customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Acting resourcefully to ensure that work within the Department is completed within the specified time and quality parameters.
  • Providing support and guidance to Import/Export team members.
  • Ensuring compliance with CBP and other government agencies’ regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, the Department of Transportation (DOT), US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Automated Export System (AES), Bureau of Industry and Security (B.I.S.), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Entity screening, and various other government agencies.
  • Developing and managing the Import and Export supply chain systems and procedures.
  • Compliance programs such as PEA’s, internal audits, FTA’s, C-TPAT and internal audits.
  • Designing and implementing procedures to control cost while implementing lean processes.
  • Determining accurate classification data including ECCN.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of import/export compliance including attending appropriate seminars and/or export compliance training.
  • Other duties, as assigned by management.
